Post-EUREKA…Pre-Turkey Trot Update
November 21, 2008Since EUREKA, I have continued to watch my calorie intake, stay active through running and hockey, and my daily weight measurement and trend analysis. As represented in the graph below, I am still on about a 1 pound per week average loss. Overall, I have lost about 15 pounds since my original weigh-in at 230 pounds in August.

I feel much better physically and mentally. I can run on the treadmill with greater intensity for longer intervals. My skating has improved. I have more energy during the work day.
So, during an evening out with friends a little over a month ago, it was suggested that I sign up for the Way Station Turkey Trot. It’s a Thanksgiving Day, 5K race sponsored by Way Station, Inc. to raise money to help folks in Frederick County who have mental illnesses. Having never run a race before, my next question was, “How long is a 5K?” When I heard that the course is only 3.2 miles I signed up. I usually run anywhere from 2 to 3 miles on the treadmill in about 30 minutes depending on whether I am interval training (hockey specific) or running some kind of fat burning, pyramid timing. I feel pretty confident that I can finish the race in about 30 minutes. My only real concern is that Winter has definitely blown into the area over the last few days. Huffing and puffing cold air is no fun and from what I hear, not good for finishing times. However, what better way to minimize the gluttony later in the day than by burning off 400-500 calories in the morning for a good cause on Thanksgiving Day?
I will try to post an update following the race.
