EUREKA: The Rigsby Health and Fitness Plan

The concept of EUREKA is to improve our health and put ourselves in a better position to prevent illness and disease that can become life changing or debilitating and make improvements in existing conditions. It is also going to be fun because we will be doing it as a family!

Let’s get this started!

Step 1:

Pick a healthy eating plan that you can live with and stick to. (I know we can all “stick to” a diet that includes cookies for breakfast, Dumsers twice a day, loaded baked potatoes for an afternoon snack, or a bucket of KFC as an appetizer. We want one that doesn’t “stick to” the inside of our coronary arteries.) South Beach, Atkins, Weight Watchers, counting daily calorie intake, low fat… whatever healthy option fits your life style and taste buds. Participation means you will commit to eating healthier foods. If you start one eating plan and it isn’t satisfying, switch! No problem!

Step 2:

Get moving! Agree to some kind of physical activity at least twice a week for 20-30 minutes, with a goal of three times a week. Again, exercising the elbows while sitting or standing at a bar is probably only going to work if you are actually on a treadmill. Find what fits you schedule and what you can commit to doing. All the “talking heads” agree that moving is very important to our health and it doesn’t require a ton of time or energy to get the benefits.

Addendum to Step 2:

We should all agree to start taking the stairs whenever we can. That is an easy activity!
